Tuesday, January 24th, 2012Diagnosis of the cause of insomnia requires a complete history and physical exam.
A physician may also ask a patient and his/her bed partner to complete diaries of sleeping patterns. One’s bed partner is important because he or she may observe behaviors during sleep, such as long pauses in breathing (as happens with sleep apnea) or other activities of which the person who suffers from the sleep disorder is unaware.

ADHD, Ritalin and Lawsuits
Wednesday, January 11th, 2012Some of the lawyers who successfully sued the tobacco industry have now filed class action suits against the American Psychiatric Association (APA) and Novartis, the company that makes a brand of methylphenidate known as Ritalin. The suit claims that APA conspired with Novartis to promote Ritalin sales and the diagnosis of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). (more…)
Moving Beyond
Thursday, January 5th, 2012While more and more older adults are making a move toward exercise, statistics show fitness levels among children are abysmally low, with obesity rates among kids on the rise. Information like this doesn’t sit well with the World Gym of Saratoga. As part of its commitment to the health and fitness of its community, the club has created AEROsport, a school assembly program that spreads the word to youngsters that being fit can be a lot of fun.
