Diagnosing Insomnia

Diagnosis of the cause of insomnia requires a complete history and physical exam.

A physician may also ask a patient and his/her bed partner to complete diaries of sleeping patterns. One’s bed partner is important because he or she may observe behaviors during sleep, such as long pauses in breathing (as happens with sleep apnea) or other activities of which the person who suffers from the sleep disorder is unaware.

Breaking the Cycle of Insecurity Post 2

The amazing thing was that while showering and washing my hair I started to feel different. I felt good about myself. After getting dressed and ready to head back out, I felt comfortable, as a matter of fact I felt attractive. I came back from the lake not only with a tan but also with a totally different attitude. Okay, the weight was still there, I still had clothes that felt a little tight and nothing had changed, so why was I feeling better about myself…? (more…)

A few weeks ago I was feeling pretty depressed. I felt insecure and very uncomfortable with the way I looked. I hadn’t exercised in about two months so there’s no doubt that I had gained some weight, especially after slacking off my usual eating habits. Of all times to backslide I had to choose the summer. Not very bright, would you say? I’d mentioned to my husband that I felt uneasy about myself, and of course as usual he said, “You look beautiful.” (more…)
