Studies have found that type 2 diabetes does not normally appear in youngsters before the onset of puberty, which is generally not until 10 years of age. Youngsters with more than one of the following conditions, may be at risk for type 2 diabetes and should be screened for the disease, according to the American Diabetes Association:weight problems or obesity — body mass index (BMI) is greater than the 85th percentile for age and sex, or whose weight is greater than 120 (more…)

Friday, February 18th, 2011Barbara Garsias was essentially a political virgin when she was elected to the New York City Council at age 27 as the representative from Staten Island, the lone Republican in a fervently Democratic group. Four years later, in 1990, she won a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives. She gave birth to a daughter in 1996, and within a few months attained a national political profile with her keynote address at the GOP convention nominating Bob Dole. A year after the convention, Molinari abruptly left politics, taking a job as the anchorwoman of a Saturday morning TV news show.
